Vámonos Santa Fe Walks
The Santa Fe Walking Collaborative, convened by the Santa Fe Conservation Trust, wants to help you to walk more! Since 2018 we’ve annually hosted 25 in-town walks on trails near Santa Fe’s parks and 5 hikes on dirt trails each year for a total of 30 walks from May through October.
Why Walk?
Regular exercise is one of the best things you can do for your health. Walking can provide numerous benefits by helping manage your weight, lower your blood pressure and cholesterol, strengthen your bones and muscles, protect against chronic disease and much more. In addition to the benefits of walking, studies have shown that being outside in nature can boost your immune system, improve your mood, and lower stress. Walking–even a little bit to start and working up to 30 minutes to an hour several times a week–is all it takes to start improving your sleep and circulation, support your joint health, and decrease your risk of developing a serious health issue such as coronary heart disease or type II diabetes.
What is the Santa Fe Walking Collaborative?
In August 2017, the Santa Fe Conservation Trust asked many community partners to join to improve public health, expand the use of city parks and public trails, and encourage and facilitate regular outdoor exercise by providing residents with knowledge and connections to existing walking and trail resources. The combined effort resulted in a series of walks across the city, designed for all age groups and interests.
Members of the Santa Fe Walking Collaborative include the convener, Santa Fe Conservation Trust, the City of Santa Fe, Santa Fe County, New Mexico Department of Health, New Vistas, New Mexico Aging Services, AmeriCorps Santa Fe RSVP, and La Familia Medical Center.
